Great Experience! Our tour guide was amazing

My son and I had a great experience during this trip. Everything from the van they picked up us, to the snacks, equipment, and lunch was high quality. Our guide was friendly, very attentive to your needs, and nice. The places we visit and the activities we did were also great. Overall a good experience. Highly recommend it

Worth it
Shelly_C

Completely worth it to have a tour guide take you to the best hiking areas while provide interesting history and facts about the area. The food was good, not overly fancy (you're hiking after all), and more than enough to satisfy. This is a way better option than trying to find multiple parking areas on your own or getting through gates (if they are open) and around to trailheads you aren't familiar with. Having someone who led the way and made sure we had everything we needed took away all stress and let us enjoy the views.

Hi Shelly, Glad you had such a good time! Traveling and exploring are so much more enjoyable without the stresses of doing it all on your own. Hope to have you back with us in the future! Cheers, DJ | Evergreen Escapes

Snow shoeing
Roslyn_R
, Mar 2022
The snow shoeing of Mt. Rainer only lasted about 2 hours in total. The view was nice; however, I’m not sure how it’s justified with the price. The lunch was advertised as salmon, grilled chicken, and wraps/sandwiches that are locally sourced. We instead received store bought cold soup, cold chicken, quinoa salad. It was not as advertised. The breakfast was store bought muffins. Nothing special. Not from a local bakery etc. Overall was not impressed, and feel like this should cost significantly less.
icon Response from Host , Mar 2022
Hi Roslyn, I am very sorry you did not enjoy your tour with us. We always appreciate constructive feedback in areas where we can improve or failed to meet guest expectations. I will address your list of concerns here for anyone else who may be reading this before deciding to book a tour with our team. The food listed in the tour description isn't a comprehensive list of what's provided, but rather a general guideline to what our meals might include. All of the food we provide on our tours is locally sourced and purchased from a Pacific Northwest co-op deli, PCC, who supports Washington, Oregon, and Idaho farmers, ranchers, and suppliers and opts for organic choices whenever possible. The muffins and pastries that we provide come from Alki Bakery, a local bakery that has been family-owned and operated since 1985. The cookies served after lunch are from a mom and daughter owned bakery who took a chance on starting their business when the covid shutdowns brought them home from work. As a locally owned and operated company ourselves, we have worked hard to build strong relationships with our local food providers and we are very proud of that fact. Our lunches are served picnic style in the National Parks as these remote destinations have limited to no indoor facilities or food service options. There is no public kitchen or other facilities where we can actually cook food in the field (the beauty of traveling to the National Parks is the ruggedness of the experience!). On colder winter days, we bring soup that we heat up in the field with a camp stove, so it should have been warm if not hot. The overall price of our tour cannot be summarized simply by the length of the snowshoe walk and the food included throughout the day. When you travel with Evergreen Escapes, you are supporting a local business that pays their employees fair living wages. We support the national park by maintaining permits that many other tour companies choose not to have due to their costly annual fees but which allow us to take travelers to areas of the park that other companies cannot go. We support other local businesses whenever possible, and we allocate funds each year for environmental issues important to our team through our participation in 1% For the Planet. This is just to name a few of the other costs that go into the total value of the tour outside of the tangible inclusions. Thank you again for bringing to our attention that we have not quite explained these details in our tour description to properly prepare guests for traveling with Evergreen Escapes. I am sorry again that we fell short of your expectations and wish you the best in all your future travels. Kind regards, DJ | Evergreen Escapes

This was a great outing. The snowshoeing was a new experience worth every minute. Our guide Meg was great. She tried to fit in as much as possible. Her driving was impeccable. Very conscious of the fact that she was responsible for people’s safety.

Being from NOLA we weren't really sure what we were expecting, but this tour was GREAT. I think we really lucked out with the weather. The snow shoeing was a tough workout but it was so, so worth it. The food and snacks provided was also very good. Karen, our guide was lovely and so knowledgeable and helpful too.

More of a summer excursion
Andraya_O
, Jan 2022
I wouldn’t do this trip in the winter again, but I’d def give it a shot in the summer. Since it was winter when we did this, the trip wasn’t able to follow the listed itinerary at all. We were only able to go into the park maybe not even a mile and we did some snow-shoeing. Even tho it was winter, I was hoping we’d be able to do more. There was high risk for avalanche, and unfortunately no one can do anything about that. I’m not sure I would have paid this much for a day of snow shoeing, but that’s the risk you take doing something like this in the winter time. Breakfast wasn’t much. We each got either a small muffin or a slice of loaf and a coffee/hot chocolate. Lunch was good, but it didn’t seem like there was enough to go around. We each got a pretty small helping of soup as well as a rice mixture. Thank goodness for the giant loaf of bread or we would have been pretty hungry. Our guide was wonderful and informative. Overall, I know this would have been a great trip in the summer when weather wasn’t an issue, but during the winter it was pretty disappointing. :/
icon Response from Host , Jan 2022
Hi Andraya: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! Unfortunately in Washington, sometimes weather and avalanche hazard do have an impact on the tours during the winter, and I'm sorry to hear that both were working against you for this trip. We do specify on the tour description page that the itinerary listed is a sample itinerary and that some of these places are not possible to visit during some months of the year. Our guides take into account many factors such as weather, seasonality, and the abilities and interests of the group we are with that day when planning each day. For anyone curious about what we spend our days doing this time of year, please feel free to give our small team a call at (206) 650-5795. We are always happy to share! We try to offer an abundance of food for our tours, and we apologize for falling short on this particular tour. We are constantly reevaluating how we prepare for different tours, and appreciate the feedback! If you have any other constructive criticism, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to give our team a call or send us an email anytime! Kind regards, DJ, Evergreen Escapes

Our tour guide Marty was fantastic. Since this was a hiking tour I would suggest people being told or understand that point when they book this tour. Most of our group would not or could not walk the trails which did limit the hiking experience.

Generally good, but overpriced for the experience
Nabila_A
, Oct 2021
Pros: Knowledgable guide, nice trails and views of Rainier, nice snacks and lunch spread, provided extra jackets and outerwear (which ended up being completely necessary!) Cons: communication and preparation leading up to the trip could have been much better, specifically on what to wear, what to expect during the trip, how many trails, how much walking and climbing, etc. Trip could have also been an hour shorter. Finally, would highly encourage temperature checks, proof of vaccination, and much stronger COVID protocols in general given that we were all piled into a very tight van and coming from different parts of the country. Had to ask the day prior if there were any COVID protocols in place at all given lack of communication on this. Overall, views and trails were great but felt a bit overpriced for the experience and especially given COVID.

Had a great time with our guide, Ben. We enjoyed a couple of short walks down to Box Canyon and the Grove of the Patriachs, along with lots of stops for pics, bathroom breaks, and anything else that caught our eye. The van was comfy, the included snacks/meals were nice and Ben even baked us bread for lunch. Overall lots of fun! Make sure to grab one of their apple streusel cookies at the end of the day for a brief moment of nirvana.

Mt Rainier Tour
Sandi_B
, Sep 2021
Mt Rainier was absolutely amazing! Our guide Jan was wonderful. She gave our group options of longer hikes or shorter ones to see more views. That was great because we had all ages on our tour and not everyone is able to do the same physically. We opted for smaller hikes so we could see more things. It was truly some of the most beautiful places I've ever seen! I am a tree lover and Twin Firs Trail was amazing. Mt Rainier was absolutely one of the most grandest things I've ever seen. Reflection Lake, breathtaking! That was only a few places we saw that day, I could go on and on!
