Explore highlights of Kohala, the Big Island’s northwestern coast, on a full-day adventure. The tour begins with early morning pickup at your Kohala or Waikoloa hotel for the drive up the glorious Kona coastline. Pass through the charming plantation towns of Hawi and Kapaau, and keep an eye out for large marine life offshore, including spinner dolphins and humpback whales (in the winter).

Take in spectacular views from the old Kohala Mule Station, and then climb aboard a sturdy 6x6 Pinzgauer military ATV for brief, bumpy off-road ride along the cliffs. Your destination is the Kohala Ditch Trail, built in the early 1900s to irrigate the surrounding former sugar plantation. Hike approximately 2 miles (3.2 km), passing blasted-out tunnels, ditches and an old aqueduct while your guide shares the history of the plantation and the construction of its impressive irrigation system. Take a break and recharge with a picnic lunch among the beautiful mountainous scenery.

Throughout the moderately challenging hike, see the seven Kohala waterfalls that dot the lush and diverse landscape. Stop at the last fall for a chance to jump into the refreshing pool and cool off under the cascade. At the end of the hike, relax on the ride back to your hotel, where your 8-hour tour concludes in the afternoon.

Had a most enjoyable time...
, Nov 2021
Had a most enjoyable time and it's all due to our guide /leader "Yoga" Mike. He brought a wealth of information and our trek to the waterfall and surrounding area a most pleasurable experience.
Small group unique hike/experience
, Nov 2021
Our guide, Mike, was truly knowledgeable about the history of the island; personable in getting to know us and relate to others in our group. The hike was mild but the views were spectacular. Definitely a unique experience.

Beautiful scenery. Excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. Learned so much history about each of the areas we passed and visited
Awesome day!
, Nov 2021
Our guide John was so fun and very knowledgeable about the vegetation, lava, volcanos and Hawaii in general. I would recommend this tour for anyone, there is a hike and steps, but totally doable and the waterfalls and swimming pond was great! Lunch and picnic spot had an outstanding view!
A Waterfall hikes to be experienced and remembered
, Oct 2021
The off beaten tracks to the private waterfalls really bring home one’s experiences. This is a professional touring company with strong/comfortable van for dirt road as well as having knowledgable guide who knows and cares about touring environment. The day ended with a great lunch and majestic view of Hawaii coastline not accessible in common roads. We were so impressed with the tour company that we booked another tour but with their sister company, Kohala Zipline only because of scheduling.

A wonderful hike through a beautiful Hawaiian forest with an extremely knowledgeable guide. The day was finished off with lunch with an outstanding view of Popolu Valley and the Kohala coast.
Great day
, Oct 2021
Had a great day on this hike. Our Guide John shared the history of the islands and the vegetation on the way to the private land we hiked . Along the hike John would stop and point out the fruit and let us sample if we wanted. the waterfalls were great and swim under one was the best. The walking sticks came in handy when the trail as a little wet. The tour ends with a picnic lunch over looking coastline.
Highlight of our trip!

Mateo was incredible. This has been the highlight of our Hawaii experience. We loved the gentle hike, swimming, eating off the land and spectacular views. The day was magic and I'd absolutely come back again.

Best thing we did while on the big island! If you like beautiful scenery and to learn about the Hawaiian culture, plants, and animals…go on this tour! We had Taj as a guide and he was great. Very knowledgeable. The swim through the waterfall was fun and refreshing. I would do it again!
Amazing views of the Kohala Waterfalls

It was a great tour and our tour guide, Mark was excellent. We enjoyed the whole team. Besides the waterfalls, we loved the views when we had our picnic.
