Paofai Gardens (Jardin de Paofai)
There’s no better place in Papeete to soak up the town’s relaxed vibe than the Paofai Gardens. Here, you’ll find plenty of green space for relaxing and, with luck, see outrigger canoe teams racing just offshore. When to Get There
Plan to visit early in the morning for a peaceful seaside stroll before it gets too hot. Come back in the evening, when the esplanade takes on a more festive atmosphere, complete with late-night food trucks and live music.
Paofai Gardens’ central location makes it a convenient jumping off point for exploring the town. The Robert Wan Pearl Museum—one of the only museums in the world that’s dedicated entirely to pearls—is adjacent to the park. If you walk east along the waterfront, you’ll pass through Bougainville Park and into the heart of Papeete. The Maison de la Culture performance venue lies just to the west.
